GRAND KNIGHT'S MESSAGE

This past month we were pleased to welcome three new members to Council 1580. They are Brian Buehne, Kevin Goring and Paul Ermer. As you encounter these brother Knights, please greet them and make them feel welcome.

As I prepare this message, four Knights and their Ladies from our council will be making plans to attend the K. of C. Illinois State Convention in Chicago. Thanks to the efforts of many hard-working, record-keeping Brothers, I'm sure we will have a good showing due to everyone doing their part.

This month the Knights will again have their food stand at the Highland Schweizerfest. We will
set up our stand at 6:00 p.m. on Friday, June 11th. Thanks in advance to any member that could be there to lend a hand in any way. Included in this Newsletter is a work list for both Saturday and Sunday. There are six shifts. The workers are assigned alphabetically. Please check the list for your name and shift time. If you are unable to make it at the assigned time, fell free to join another shift when convenient for you. I look forward to seeing all of you at the Schweizerfest.

The Corporate Communion for June will be held at St. Paul Church on June 20th at the 9:30am Mass. Coffee and doughnuts will be served on the lawn behind the rectory after Mass. Hope to see many of you and your families there .

The following Sunday, June 27th, we will hold our Installation of Officers. Social hour starts at 5 p.m. with dinner to follow.

Hope everyone has a fun and safe summer!

Jim Plocher,

Grand Knight

Faithful Captain------Hollie Willmann

Faithful Admiral-----Morris Zobrist

Faithful Pilot----------James Whitlock

Faithful Comptroller-David Gall

Faithful Purser--------Mark Stephens

Faithful Scribe--------Leon Luber

The election for these positions will be held at our meeting in June.

Our annual golf tournament is scheduled for the 1sr of August. Van Thuenemann and his crew are already at work on this project. For more information on this tourney, give Van a call.

As Memorial has passed us, let us keep in mind all those who lost their lives for us to live in freedom and peace in our country. Without their unselfish courage we would not have what we have today.

Also, a reminder that there will be not meeting in July.

WE LOVE DADS!

LADIES AUXILIARY

In May, Leon Luber recounted a recent trip to the Gettysburg Civil War battlefield in Pennsylvania (as well as to Hershey, PA and Niagara Falls). Members left with new knowledge, thanks to Leon’s interesting presentation.

At roll call, the three Korte officers (trustees Ethel Korte and Pat Korte, and Sergeant-in-Arms JoAnn Korte) were absent. All other officers were present.

Genevieve Mehan gave a brief report on the June 18-19 Relay for Life. All members are urged to come out (to Tri-Township Park in Troy) and visit, encourage the team, etc. For more information, call Genevieve at 654.7363.

President Kaye Plocher, Vice President Dot Durbin, Trustee Chris Gall and JoAnn will represent our club at the Ladies Auxiliary State Convention, May 28-30 in Chicago.

Workers are needed in the Bingo tent at this year’s Schweizerfest, June 12 – 13, following the parade.

Kaye mentioned the inaugural Taste of Illinois cookbook sponsored by the Illinois Jurisdiction. Recipes are requested, and are due in December.

Members are encouraged to participate in the Pregnancy Care Center’s Baby Bottle fundraiser. Call Kaye for details. Also, Genevieve introduced an on-going service project for the group: collecting personal hygiene products for the Guardian Angels Pantry in Alton—a basket for donations will be at each meeting.

Thanks to Linda and Genevieve for this month’s refreshments; Phyllis Reidelberger and Darlene Rehkemper will do duty in June. Rosemary Meyer went home with $6 from the 50-50; Pauline won the attendance prize.

At the June 1st meeting, Lynn Rehberger will talk antiques. Members are encouraged to bring items for Lynn to examine. All members and their guests are welcome.

Genevieve Mehan, Secretary

DAUGHTERS OF ISABELLA

On Tuesday, the 18th of May, 26 members and 2 guests and Chaplain Father David Peters enjoyed the annual Mother’s Day Potluck. The food was delicious

Our entertainment was Mike and Cherie Kuhn. They played and sang many old time songs. It was very enjoyable. It brought back many good memories.

The 2nd of June is our next bingo at Faith Countryside Nursing Home at 2:00pm. We can always use more help.

Our mass and annual breakfast is June 6th. Mass is at 9:30am followed by breakfast at the KC Hall. Spouses are welcome.

The Crucifix prayers and the opening prayer was said by Chancellor Mary Jacober. The Crucifix was taken home by Joetta Korte.

The Committee for June is: Shirley Bellm, Margaret Daiber, Catherine Holtgrave, Marie Plocher, Norma Heim, and Marie Weis.

The birthdays for June are: Francis Luitjohan, Anna Rickher, Anna Lou Weis, Lucille Rutz, and Mae Grapperhaus.

Regent Connie Werner thanked the committee for all their hard work and beautiful flowers.

Our next meeting is Tuesday, June 15th at 7:30pm.

Scribe,
Mary Buchheim
